Youtube Spotlight: Game Grumps!
Howdy, kids! It’s me, DukeKataron! Honestly though, if you’re a youngun and you’re not used to foul language, I am warning you right now that this may not be the post for you.
Not that I’m going to curse like a sailor with tourettes, but the guys I’m going to be talking about do like to swear quite a bit. So this is your warning. You have now officially been warned.
All righty, now that the fuckin’ kids are gone, let’s get down to business. And no, not to defeat the Huns. Today I’m here to talk to you folks about one of my new favourite Youtube channels, Game Grumps. That’s right. This is some kind of Youtube Spotlight! I haven’t done an article about this kind of thing before, but dammit, that’s never stopped me before.
But now he’s teamed up with another fellow, JonTron, to create a gaming channel! Now, I won’t lie. I was not familiar with JonTron before this happened, but now I have come to love the man. I’m even sad I wasn’t aware of him before, because he has some hilarious videos on his channel.
So what do you get when you take two hilarious guys, who are good friends even off-screen, and put them together playing video games?
You get hilarity, my friends. Hilarity. You might be wondering what kind of games they play. All sorts of games! Let’s see which ones I can remember off of the top of my head. Kirby Superstar, Goof Troop, Megaman 7, Banjo Kazooie, Pokemon Emerald, Animal Crossing, Link to the Past, New Super Mario Bros., and probably some others that I can’t remember. They are now up to over a hundred videos, and so far have beaten…two games, I think? They finished up Megaman 7, and Goof Troop. They’ve also gotten through most of Kirby Superstar, but they still have at least…the one game mode where you go around finding treasures or artifacts or whatever. And I think an outer space one where all I can remember is that the final boss was fucking intense.
Plus, Egoraptor is now taking some moments from previous episodes and doing little animations for them. Only taking a couple of minutes out of the tenish minute episodes and drawing them up. No colour, so it’s nice, simple, clean animation. And it’s funny. You can tell it’s funny to them, too, as you can hear them laughing during it.
And recently, they’ve opened up some Game Grumps VS, where instead of just playing the game, they’re playing against each other. I mean, obviously. You probably figured that out without me having to say it, but shut up. It’s rather odd to have them go from making jokes and just playing around to all of a sudden playing a game seriously while trying to beat the other. Their Smash Bros game was goddamn captivating. I think I’d been playing Binding of Isaac at the time, and ended up just alt-tabbing out of it and fullscreening Youtube to see their matches against each other. Their first Smash Bros. video is almost forty-five minutes long, and they have two shorter videos later. They’ve also played Goldeneye, Dream Mix TV World Fighters, and Jeopardy. Yeah, it’s an odd assortment of games. And you likely have not heard of the Dream Mix one. I know I hadn’t! Doesn’t make it any less hilarious, though.
And on top of the videos being funny, they have an awesome fan base as well. They get a lot of awesome fan art, and have even had a few remixes made of things they’ve said. In fact, I had a conversation on Facebook the other night with a complete stranger about Game Grumps, mostly about the remixes! THIS SHIT BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER.
I’m honestly not sure what else to say. Do you like funny guys? Are you okay with lots of swearing? How about burping? Egoraptor does that quite a bit, which Jontron does not like…Which honestly just makes it funnier. Then just check it out. Just…just watch their videos, man. Then come back here, and let’s talk about them. This shit’s funny, and you’ll probably like it.
And hey, while you’re on the Youtubes youtubing and tubeyoubing (I am so sorry for writing that), you might as well check out the Ogeeku Youtube channel, where Jon and some of his coworkers recently played a bit of Slender. Go laugh at them!
Also, for anyone wondering, my article about Fan Expo is pretty much written up, I’m just awaiting the last few pictures to plug into the article and it will be going up. I had planned to wait for that one to go up before I tossed anything else up on the website, but I am an impatient man, and had planned to do this article for a while, so here we are.
