Writing on Ogeeku: How Tos / Formatting

Hey everyone!

You now have the ability to submit content on Ogeeku!

So you’re probably wondering what’s next? Here’s some steps to posting content on the site and making it look awesome! Please read this page fully as it will help you solve most issues you might have.

Writing an Article

You have that great idea or found the perfect video and want to share it on our site. Awesome! We can’t wait to see it!

+ To submit an article, first log into the site (either on the right hand side or up on the control bar at top).
+ Once logged in, on the control bar at top:
– Click Dashboard
– Click New Post

It’ll take you to a screen that looks like this:

Don’t panic! It’s super friendly and intuitive. Take a look around on it.

+ Your cursor will automatically want to type in the Headline bar at the top. Type a working title or that perfect headline you’ve always wanted.
+ Start typing your article in the large box directly below that. It should automatically be on the “HTML” tab. If not, click it. HTML formatting is the only way to guarantee what your post will look like, so use it at all times.
+ When done typing or if you want to come back to the article to work more later, click Save Draft (on the right hand side).

When she says “Painting”, she actually means your article.

+ When you are ready for the article to be posted, mark the Status as “Pending Review” and “Save Draft”. An Editor will review the content for you and publish when the schedule best permits! If more work needs done, the Editor will contact you on the Ogeeku Messenger.

Images and Formatting

All new users have default “Contributor” status. That means that you are able to create new content, but will not be able to upload images or Publish. Users with Author/Editor status are able to upload images to the article. You will also need to choose a “Featured Image” for your article – as this will be the default thumbnail seen with your content across the site.

+ To post an image (Contributor): Post a direct link to the image or email to jon@ogeeku.com.
+ To post an image (Author/Editor): Click the Camera/Music icon above the main typing box.
– Click Select Files.
– Choose a single image file (keep dimensions under 600px wide)
– When uploaded, type an appropriate Title in the Title box.
– If you want a caption, type the caption in the caption box.
– DO NOT SELECT ANY ALIGNMENT. Keep image size at MEDIUM.
– Click Insert into Post.

Your image (if it doesn’t have a caption) will appear in your text box looking like this:

To make the image all nice and centered pretty, type a center command on either side, so the code looks like this:

The CENTER command is the golden HTML for this site. It can be used on images and video embeds and will keep stuff looking awesome. Make sure you type the CENTER bracket commands around any element you want centered.

+ To Upload a Featured Image:
– Click “Set Featured Image” on the bottom right.
– Upload the Image, follow instructions similar to earlier. Please choose a large image of at least 1024px x 600px. Use what you see on the front page of Ogeeku as a gauge.
– Click “Use as Featured Image” instead of “Insert into Post”

Video Embeds

I love YouTube video posts and so do most of our users. Make sure that the video post is good for viewing on your article by using the following best practices:

+ IGNORE SHORTCODES.
+ Post the entire embed code generated by a video.
– From YouTube, it can be found in Share, Embed underneath the video:

+ Make sure the called “width” dimension is under 600px. If not, change it manually.
+ Place the CENTER commands on either side of the video.

Categories & Tags

You can help us determine how you want the article published on the site.

Writing about the DBZ series? Click the Anime and TV Categories. Writing about an awesome CoD kill streak video you found? Click the Gaming and Videos categories. Find where your article fits best and mark it!

Also be sure to write out some KEY WORD tags in the tags box. Separate each word or series of words with a comma. Then click Add.

For Example: If you’re writing about World of Warcraft, you may use the following keywords: Azeroth, WoW, World of Warcraft, Horde, Alliance, expansion, Northrend, raid.

NOTE: If you are writing a News article, type the keyword “news” in your tag list. This will allow it to feature on our sliding bar.

After working on your article, always be sure to Save Draft so our database has your most recent version!
