I have been slacking, and for that I am truly sorry. Is…is anyone there?? A-anyways, today’s VGMD is the song Far Away from Jose Gonzales. Save for title sequence songs(mostly), Far Away is one of the few tracks with vocals that is actually featured as a part of the game. Rockstar nailed it on the head when they decided to let this play during your in game trip to their version of Mexico. The acoustic guitar really sells the aesthetic of Red Dead and the soothing voice of Jose Gonzales really really does wonders and fits so perfectly in a game all about…well, redemption.

Definitely one of the best uses of a song (with lyrics) I’ve ever seen in a video game. So often I find that music with lyrics can really take me out of the game; but this is one case where it only entrenched me further inside the world of Red Dead.

That’s what I feel is both effective and unique. Lots of games have absolutely incredible soundtracks but at times are not used correctly, so they end up being swept aside next to gameplay, graphics, what have you. I would love if more games incorporated songs into the games, especially ones with lyrics that pertain to maybe a particular scene or event happening at that time.
