Set the World on Fire – July’s Flash Fiction Contest

Recently, I won an original Flash Fiction contest run by my favorite author, Chuck Wendig. You can see the winning story here. It got me thinking – hey, I’m the Editor of Literature here at Ogeeku now – why not run some Flash Fiction contests of my own? After getting the go-ahead from Jon, that’s exactly what I’m going to do, folks.

Starting this month, I’ll be running a monthly Flash Fiction contest. The winner will receive 250 Ogeeku points and will have their story showcased on the site! Awesome, right?

What is Flash Fiction? For those of you unaware, Flash Fiction is a story of up to 1000 words. Not too difficult, right?

So, you might be thinking, how do I enter? It’s simple – either you can post it online and drop a link to it in the comments, or you can e-mail it to me at hostilecrayon@gmail.com. If you choose to e-mail it, make sure to title it ‘Ogeeku Contest Entry’ or it might get lost – I get over 100 e-mails a day, and you want to make sure I get it if you want to win!

Wait, what are you writing about, exactly? Each month there will be a different theme – some may be prompts, others genre – whatever strikes my fancy that month. This month, the theme is Set the World on Fire. You can interpret this any way you like – it doesn’t have to be a literal fire. It can be metaphorical, or a personal, emotional concept, or even the name of something within the story. As long as it relates to the theme in some way, it qualifies!

So when is it due? Each month you’ll have three weeks to work on your story – feel free to turn it in before then, though! The last week will be the judging week, and when I announce the next contest, I will also announce the winner!

To summarize: The theme is Set the World on Fire, the deadline is the 25th of July, you can submit via link or an e-mail titled ‘Ogeeku Contest Entry’ to hostilecrayon@gmail.com, and the winner will receive 250 Ogeeku points and will have their story hosted on the site!

So get cracking, Ogeekuins. There are prizes to be won!
