Ogeeku Live! : Final Fantasy II – Part I

Today (August 20th) was the launch of Ogeeku Live! – the broadcast addition to our already super awesome site content!

Ogeeku Live! is a a weekly live broadcast where we will be playing through a game or series of games for your enjoyment. Today’s broadcast and the next series of broadcasts focus on Final Fantasy II (our guest player James Ashby’s favorite game from childhood), where will attempt to beat it.

Key word: Attempt.

We also chat with all of you during each broadcast, and do our best to churn out semi-witty banter that seemed to entertain at least a small percentage of our initial viewers!

Want to know the perfect Final Fantasy pick-up line? Well, then you’ll need to watch the replay of our first session!

We’re also preparing to do an interactive Left 4 Dead session this upcoming week! Visit us daily/add us on Facebook for more information!

I watched the first half of this (thusly ending up here). Random commentary makes nostalgia so much better.

Thanks for joining us! I can only hope we were entertaining enough that you were overwhelmed with sadness when you left.

This was a whole bunch of fun to watch. You guys had me in stitches the whole way through. Looking forward to even more. :)

Hah, just watched the whole thing. It was a good morning watch. I never got too far in FFII, FFIII was my poison, but I don’t mind watching other people do it. Keep on keeping on!

Just in case I posted in the forum in the wrong place, FF8 was the worst FF game in existence….and II/IV was really good. My fav is III/VI though, just barely above FF Tactics

So essentially you’ve just declared war with me? Look: Squall was just emotional, okay?!?!

Best final fantasys are easily III/VI, II/IV, and Tactics.

8 was only good for the card game which was admittedly amazing.

When will the next live FFII broadcast be?

also One Piece is objectively the greatest manga ever made

dunno if it’s too late to vote but you guys should play Mother 3. There is a great fan translation for it, but you would have to use a GBA emulator (which you can get on your Wii if you hack it or just stream from a PC). Mother 3 is even better than Earthbound imo

  • http://www.ogeeku.com/member/stoicmani/ Jon Brence

It will be this upcoming Saturday, 3pm PST (6pm EST) :)

Mother 3 was great (I knew some of the folks who pounded out the fan translation). I still think EB is a better title, partly due to nostalgia, incredible soundtrack, and clean story arc. Mother 3 also made me cry a lot more than EB. Not cool when Jon is playing a video game. Not cool.

Enjoyed watching you guys play this, never actually played very far in FF 2/4 myself. Was wondering if you are going to be getting a proper capture card for future broadcasts?

Not really a major issue, I just couldn’t help noticing the angle and other stuff like your reflections every time the screen went black.

Also 10 was the best FF ever.

We have ordered an Capture device for future broadcasts :) Just waiting for it to come in!

I wasn’t aware that ‘…’ was an emotion.

    BAM!

I’m forced to wonder if it is stranger that I just watched almost two hours of other people playing a video game or that I would gladly do so again. It definitely helps that FFIV (sorry James) is at the top of my list for Final Fantasy games but I think the banter would have made this worthwhile regardless of that fact.

Squall wasn’t what made that game horrible though lol. I have to say the magic system is 90% why I hate the game. Lets face it, magic coming out of a hole in the ground isn’t the best idea, and if you think about it, its also kind of like an item in that you have a limited amount and it doesn’t refill.

I’m gonna think you put VI there because you thought it was the best and I will agree. Although I may have put Tactics before IV but that’s just because I never had access to it as a child.

    Mother 3 FTW

  • http://www.ogeeku.com/member/jacksaw/ James LaFreniere

I will agree with Brence on this one. Probably the main argument being the nostalgia one and my cousin probably wouldn’t agree with spending a full week playing Mother 3 dusk til dawn like we used to with Earthbound back in the day.

I’m glad you put objectively in there. Mind you I love One Piece, but at one point I got sick of waiting for eps to come out and started in on the manga. I don’t like the pacing of the comics, but that could just be me. I like the action and some of the exposition just seems a bit… lame. But I still read it each week so it must be good, eh?
