Mass Shooting in Colorado

I sat down to write a very honest review of The Dark Knight Rises. Then, I thought, ‘is this really important right now?’ I was listening to the radio as it as announced live around 4 am or so. My jaw hung open as I listened to the horror. If you haven’t heard, this morning in Aurora, Colorado, a gunman attacked a theater full of people at a midnight screening of the movie. He was wearing a gas mask and clad in combat clothing. Of course no one would suspect him; many were dressed up. He started shooting at a point in the film where a lot of gunfire was taking place; first by throwing tear gas the shooting at will.

12 innocent people lost their lives and 50 more were injured this morning. Our hearts go out to the loved ones, friends and families of the victims of this tragic and untimely event. The suspect is in custody but so far, no news as to why he did it. We can all use a Dark Knight right now. May the lone gunman get what’s coming to him.

    I was extremely sad to hear this news considering how much I enjoyed the film.  I’m less concerned about the bad press than I am about what a senseless act this was.  It really is tragic that someone could use a moment of excitement and use it for such a macabre purpose.  Here in America we don’t think of such acts as being possible and many of us don’t give any thought to attacks like this that take place in the Middle East or the train bombings in London a few years back.  We as a country tend to distance ourselves from these acts and think it could never happen to us.  While I have every intention of seeing The Dark Knight Rises at least half a dozen times, I am currently overwhelmed with sorrow that such an atrocious and destructive act happened and extend my sincerest condolences to those affected.
