Legend of Korra Recap: When Extremes Meet

Welcome back folks! It’s been a while since we’ve had a new Korra and the show returns with a vengeance! We got a game changer here and it gets big, fast. Let’s do this!

Speaking of a welcome back, Shiro Shinobi returns to giving us a rundown of what’s been happening on the show and now we have Asami, Bolin, and Mako coming to live on Air Temple Island. The Flying Airbenders are great here with Jinora able to rattle off all sorts of facts about Fire Ferrets while Ikki is excited at such a creature’s existence on the adorable scale, and Meelo is being a creeper about Asami.

This is Meelo's "How you doin'?" Face.

While showing everyone to their rooms Ikki lets it slip that Korra has a thing for Mako, right in front of Asami, which leads to Korra shunning Ikki from the room and we are treated to Ikki’s angry face, her grandmother and father’s genes are strong. Then Tenzin shows up to explain that with Lin stepping down (I know it’s so she can go all vigilante it still makes me sad) they should go to the ceremony for the new Chief of police, Saikhan.

It seems that the new Chief will be taking most of his orders from Tarrlok, who is also manipulating the situation to give himself more power. Korra makes it known she is cutting her ties with Tarrlok and while heading home Tenzin and Korra discuss her visions of Aang and what they could mean.

Korra is feeling down because while calling Tarrlok out, he said she’s barely an Avatar since she can’t airbend. Asami, Bolin, and Mako show up to cheer her up and unite as Team Avatar to patrol the city. Meelo has something to add, mostly farting.

This kid, THIS KID!

We get to see that Asami gets to be the awesome techie non-bender as she not only brings the Equalist tazer-glove but also an awesome Sato-mobile, Team Avatar gets to ride in style thanks to Asami. Thanks to the police scanners in the car (her dad was planning on taking them down after all) they learn of an Equalist jail break and we get to see some cool city-style bending and a car chase! Earthbending car ramps, Mako lightning bending, Bolin machine-gunning chips of the road, while Asami does some sweet Manuevering while Korra pulls off assist after assist. Everyone shines in this quick little fight.

A fight, on a car, going high speed, and this is just part of the fight.

After rounding up the Equalists that Team Avatar caught, Tarrlok is furious with Korra intervening. This leads to Tarrlok enforcing a curfew for non-benders and arresting anyone who is associated with the Equalists. This sounds similar to how Communism was dealt with in several different countries in the real world. While out patrolling, Team Avatar here of a massive arrest of Equalists, which just turns into a corralling of non-benders being oppressed by Tarrlok and his metalbending cop brigade.

She is fighting the power of several metalbending cops. By herself

The cops begin to metal and earthbend the people up and Korra literally stops them from doing so single-handedly. To get back at her, Tarrlok arrests Asami for being out passed curfew and being related to Hiroshi, then take Mako and Bolin as well. Korra is ready to crush Tarrlok but the Team talks her out of it. When Tenzin tries to talk to the Chief about letting them go, he’s stonewalled. (earthbending “joke”)

Korra decides to confront Tarrlok about his abuse of power and Tarrlok reveals that the reason he arrested his team was to give Korra the ultimatum to step in line if she wants her friends let go. Korra refuses and Tarrlok opens fire and we get a crazy cool fight. Korra almost wins, that is until Tarrlok uses his sneakiest attack, Bloodbending. As Korra is struck down, she sees that Tarrlok is bloodbending without a full moon. Another vision of everyone at Yakone’s trial being subdued by bloodbending but himself. Tarrlok locks an incapacitated Korra in a truck and drives off.

That’s it! We are left with that! No next time! Just a captured Korra being taken who knows where by a bloodbender! Well folks, things are looking super grim, this may be the time Lin and Tenzin have to team up to break everything. Lin wasn’t here and I missed her fiercely as I saw her job become a puppet for a power-mad jerk. See you all next week my fellow hotmen.
