Legend of Korra Recap: The Aftermath

This week we get all sorts of shake ups as betrayal is uncovered. Let’s do this!

The first thing to notice is that the “last time” narration isn’t done by Shiro Shinobi, but Tarrlok condemning both Amon and Lin Bei Fong. I don’t like that last one getting in trouble, at all. So there’s our first change, and it doesn’t end there.

Korra arrives at the remains of the pro-bending arena to tell Bolin and Mako that they can come move into Air Temple Island. It turns out Asami already beat her to the punch and the boys will be moving into her and her father’s mansion. Korra is bummed out but Bolin and Pabu talk her into taking Asami’s invitation to hang out the next day.

Meanwhile, Cabbage Corp (the current incarnation of the long running gag from Airbender), is being raided by the cops to find that they are filled with Equalist paraphernalia. This all leads to yet another call back by having the owner of the company being taken away yelling “Not my Cabbage Corp!” That’s a sad way to bring in a call back, funny though.

One of the best running gags.

Korra sees Tahno, now with his hair droopy with no waterbending to enhance it. He tells her, that all the best healers in town say it’s permanent. He’s also a shadow of his former self and just is tired looking. Tahno isn’t the arrogant jerk, though he tries to goad Korra in a friendly manner.

Korra arrives at Asami’s and this place is NICE, massive pool and a waiter ready to dry you off. Asami decides to take everyone out, for Satomobile racing! Korra and Asami seem to be making friends, we’re finally getting some Asami characterization as we see her skills behind the will and her daring.

While using the bathroom back at the mansion, Korra fights a terrifying powder puff, and loses. Korra struggles with airbending and it looks like make up as well. As she leaves the bathroom, Korra overhears Hiroshi Sato talking on the phone about Cabbage Corp buying some time and being ready to strike in a week. This just got real interesting and dangerous, staying in the belly of what may be the beast.

Korra goes to tell Tenzin and Lin about the situation and they explain that Hiroshi has the motive in that his wife was killed by a firebender (seriously, everyone is getting killed by firebenders still). The police take Hiroshi in which causes Asami and Mako to think Korra is wrong and try to defend Hiroshi. Hiroshi tells Tenzin and Lin it’s fine for them to look into Future Industries for any wrong doing, and they find nothing. Mako and Korra fight again, bringing up the whole Asami relationship again and threatening to end his friendship with Korra.

As things wrap up there, Korra is passed a note by an unknown man. The man meets up with them later that night and explains he was a former Equalist who got out when it got too dangerous. He tells them of a secret factory Hiroshi has under the Sato Mansion where he’s building the electro-gloves.

Lin, Tenzin, and Korra prepare to strike at the mansion with more metalbending cops. As they investigate, Lin shows that she is Toph’s daughter by using a tremorsense (just like mom used to!) to find the secret entrance to the factory. Bolin, Asami, and Mako are left upstairs while the others go to explore. When they arrive in the factory, Equalist propaganda is everyone, along with mech-suits. MECH-SUITS! Hiroshi is also waiting for them inside one and locks them in.

Korra and Tenzin both dodge as airbenders, well done Korra.

Mako and Bolin trick the guard that is blocking them access into the factory so they can figure out what’s going on, Asami stays upstairs on Mako’s request. Downstairs, Lin tries to metalbend the door that has them trapped, it’s made of platinum, which Hiroshi explains is too pure for even Toph to bend and that’s why the mech-suits are also platinum. Thus we get everyone versus mechs-suits! It was all a set up!

I hope this was his invention into master-level.

Lin was Spider-Man last episode, now she's Wolverine!

Metalbending cops try to pull down mech-suits AT-AT vs. Snowspeeder-style but it’s not use when the suits can also taze. Lin starts striking up close with metal spikes to the suits’ windows. Tenzin starts knocking back as many suits as he can. Korra and Tenzin do a fire and air team up against Hiroshi, Tenzin starts taking to defensive to save Korra from being killed and makes a wind-wheel to try and get across the battlefield faster but is tazed by a bola. Eventually all the benders are down but Mako and Bolin arrive to sneak in to try and help before the Equalists can take them away.

Hiroshi finds them quickly and is ready to take the boys down when Asami to tell her father to stop. He gets all Vader on poor Asami and hands her an electro-glove, I feel bad for the kid, she didn’t know any of this. She accepts the glove, but instead of joining the Equalists she tazes her own father. Seriously, feel so bad for her.

PATHOS!

They are able to escape with Tenzin, Lin, and Korra’ sadly the other metalbending cops are with Amon now, likely to have their bending taken away. Lin says she is going to resign from her position as Chief so that she can take this on, outside the law. Korra, once again, invites Mako and Bolin to Air Temple Island, and Asami too.Korra even tells Mako that he needs to be there for Asami right now after all she’s been through.

Our team has taken some heavy losses: a loss of metalbending cops, Asami has effectively lost her father, Lin will lose her job, Asami, Mako, and Bolin have lost their homes (again for the boys). They do have some knowledge though that now they know who funds the Equalists, some of their new tech, and our team will be united on Air Temple Island. A good episode all around, sad and dark stuff for Asami, but she’s finally gotten some character development like I was hoping to see. Too bad she had to get put through the wringer for it to happen. No new episode next week for memorial day, so we’ll have to wait a while. See you all next time my fellow hotmen!

Just wanted to let you know, I like reading your recaps. :) Also : nice fight in this episode! I love how Lin is using the same technique as Ed in FMA to metalbend her gloves as blades. And i wonder if Aang improved his own “air scooter” (it’s very similar to the air ball Aang used) or if it’s Tenzin’s invention.
