Cake Shop Couture: Deliciousness you can wear.

“My goal is to make girls feel like the beautiful dolls I believe that we all are…”

I’ve been attending conventions since 2005, with that I’ve seen a lot of businesses and ideas pop up that are always interesting. One of which, still blows my mind to this day. Not only for it’s ingenious theme but also the charm it has.

Cake Shop Couture is the name of the company and creator Song Ja Park has been producing these incredible, wearable, pieces of sweets for 5 years. “I first started C.S.C with mainly clothing in 2007″ she says to me during a small question session I had with her recently. “Then shortly after, I started making more accessories and jewelry.” she continued. Almost every Convention here in Arizona is bound to have Cake Shop sitting around in the artist alley. While passing by, a rainbow of pink, baby blue, white, and brown fills your eyes, that’s where you spot them. Cakes, cookies, brownies, and cupcakes all formed to be necklaces, rings, and more. What else would a girl want right?

Her reason for creating this business is simple enough. “I am very heavily inspired by Asian street fashions, especially the Japanese street style ‘Lolita’. Usually the style Lolita, often makes girls look and feel like princesses. That truly inspired me. My goal is to make girls feel like the beautiful dolls I believe that we all are with my clothing and accessories.” It’s all about the girls with this one.

Not only does Cake Shop Couture focus on themed accessories but dresses as well. Every convention that CSC takes part in you can be sure that they’ll show up in the J-Fasion show. In order to gain excitement and buzz for these shows, Song from her CSC Facebook page, usually sends out open invites for girls to apply for a chance to become a model for their turn on the runway. Her growth is very apparent, even through messaging on Facebook her joy shows “Not gonna lie, I aim high!…I hope to one day have a boutique at the least. The growth rate of my business has defiantly expanded much faster then I have imagined.”

Pricing for all of these items are very affordable, accessories run anywhere from $3 to $28 while some of the dresses Song makes can go anywhere from $65-$120. Cake Shop Couture doesn’t just stop at local conventions either. When asked if CSC takes out of state orders or even ship, I received this response “We do! We have shipped to all over the US and World wide. We have shipped to Spain, UK, Germany, Japan and Australia, just to name a few of our hot spots.”. As of now, plans are coming together to head out of state for choice conventions. Custom orders are also welcomed, however custom dresses are a different story. Not that she doesn’t take custom orders but the accessory to dress ratio takes favor to accessories.

Every 3 months(usually) another convention takes place in Arizona, and during that time droves of followers appear at CSC’s table to nibble on their newest creations or attain the ones they didn’t at the last convention. The business that Song Ja Park has created just keeps getting bigger even to the point where male attendees would joke with her and say she should create another line for men entitled “Beefcake” shop. A suggestion that she finds quite humorous.

“I plan on continuing C.S.C. for as long as I can. With the current support and growth of the business currently, Id say C.S.C. will be around for a while!” she exclaimed while a smile sticks to my face. There is no doubt that it will, especially with the constant new clientele and coverage from sites like TwistedManga, we can only hope that Song Ja Park and Cake Shop Couture will get the recognition and success they so much deserve.
