Taking a Look at: The Binding of Isaac – Wrath of the Lamb

So a couple of weeks back, last year’s surprising and disturbing indie hit The Binding of Isaac had an expansion released.  Titled “Wrath of the Lamb,” it brought about 70% more brand new content to the bizarre, roguelike-esque dungeon crawler, and gave me a good reason to finally take a look at it to see what it’s all about.  My apologies in advance for the audio levels in this one, they’re a little higher than I’d like.  Also I forgot to disable my mouse cursor visibility.  However, recording blunders aside, is the game any fun, perhaps in spite (or because) of it’s bizarre setting?  Let’s find out!

Pretty great tutorial man. You spoke clearly and, for the most part, slowly enough to be understood, and covered all the basic information in an easy to understand way. Just a couple extra points. For pills, it is just as randomized as the levels and items. The effects they give change with each new game. (Puberty and Friends to the End definitely seem to be new pill effects, as well.) Also tears up effects rate of fire, not range. Discolored enemies are just stronger versions of the regular kind, and I believe do 2x the damage. I know at least that if the regular enemies shoot projectiles, the discolored ones’ take off a full heart. Lastly, if you have bombs to spare, you can use them to blow up slot machines, including beggars, to get a couple of items. It’s kind of like opening a gold chest ;but you use a bomb instead of a key.

EDIT: One more thing I did notice is you kept calling the three flies Halo of Flies. I don’t mean to sound nit-picky; but it is different. Halo of Flies is two flies that circle around Isaac and block projectiles. The three flies seem to be attack or kamikaze flies, perhaps that is why the die after one hit. In any case, it’s more a testament to just how much this game offers. Even after all I have played, I find myself finding new items, or trying to remember what old items do. There’s just so much to this game it’s ridiculous.
